CPC Portrait Awards 2018
The CPC Portrait Awards are an international photography competition that recognizes the best in child portraiture throughout the world. This photo competition for child portrait photographers recognizes exceptional images based on a judging criteria that identifies the best quality in art. The judging panel scores entries based on technical quality, composition, artistic expression and overall impression.
The CPC Portrait Awards judging panel reward child portraiture that portrays amazing emotions, powerful stories, technical brilliance, something unique, thoughtfulness, and great composition. There are some amazing photographers who share in the honor of being recognized within this group and I’m delighted to have two images win honorable mentions in the October 2018 round of judging.
The first image is a portrait taken of Ava. Originally photographed on a grey background with a single light directed towards the subject, I added the green background using Photoshop during the editing portrait. Using my signature painterly style I wanted to create a timeless image with a vintage feel, that portrayed my subject in a peaceful and contemplative moment.
The second winning image was taken in studio, using a two light setup I learned from master photographer Felix Kunze. As with most portrait sessions in my studio, I used my Stella Pro LED continuous lights. They run for about an hour on the highest power setting using a built in battery, thus enabling me to create a safe environment in the photography studio with minimal cables on set that could be a tripping hazard to my young subjects. This amazing image was captured in camera and shows curious goldfish, Gus, interacting with his new human friend. This image was also photographed using a plain grey background and I used a texture during the editing process to add interest and depth to the background.
Photographers who are interested in using digital backgrounds and textures in their own editing can now purchase some of my favorites through my online store!
